Esk’et Building Co.
We are an Esk’etemc construction company specializing in quality craftsmanship and custom design builds.
Robert has 16 years of experience in commercial and residential construction, and a track record of successful projects and satisfied clients.
Robert grew up at Esk’et, and with the support of the Esk’etemc band completed his Carpentry Apprenticeship at Camosun College in Victoria, BC in 2009. He worked for Outlook Project Management for 10 years, benefiting from a quality training experience and high-end finishing work, before moving back to Esk’et in 2015.
Esk’et Building Company, formerly known as Esk’et Tiny House, has been in operation since 2016. Our projects have included the Esk’et Sqlelten tiny house (2015), the Esk’et Spyu7 off-grid solar-powered camping cabin (2017), contracting residential renovation projects in-community (2017) – and collaborative projects: the carved log entryway to the new ARM Alkali Resource Management building (2017), and the Sun & Moon Log Structure (2019).
At the end of 2017, Robert was hired on by the Esk’etemc band as Housing carpenter. Over the course of 2 ½ years he worked to train apprentices and summer students. Projects included various band home renovations in-community.
In 2019, Robert led a training project supported by CCATEC and the BC Arts Council, the Sun & Moon Log Structure. The project (inspired by Zooly J) honoured Secwepemc oral histories of the land in the structure and it’s story of petroglyph markings, using local logs and mentoring local workers.
In 2020 and 2021, we have completed commercial interior and exterior renovations at the Esk’et Store and Cafe (commercial kitchen, dining room re-design, custom woodwork & checkout counters, etc), as well as a custom cedar sign for Future Generations of Esk’etemc, two pithouse-design bus shelters, and an outdoor learning structure with carved pictograph drawings done by stsmemelt (children) from Sxoxomic School.
Robert served as an elected band councilor for Esk’etemc from 2016-2021, and serves in the Yucwemintem traditional governance system as Chief of Communications/Youth.
